The Level 3 Locksmith Qualification is currently the only officially recognised Locksmith Qualification (governed by Ofqual) within the Locksmith Industry! Completing the Locksmith Qualification course with Keytek® in our purpose-built training academy means that you will be trained to the highest standards available by our professional Locksmith trainers. This course is the perfect start to your career in the Locksmith industry or to gain an official Locksmith Qualification under your name!
Locksmith Qualification Course Breakdown
Keytek® have partnered with Highfield, a leader in UK Qualifications, to offer this new Locksmith Qualification course.
The Locksmith Qualification course comprises of 14 separate unit modules, all of which are essential to becoming a Locksmith. These are taught over the first 8 days on your training within the purpose-built facility with a maximum of 3 students to help ensure full understanding and help is available for each and every student.
With full ongoing support and guidance from your Locksmith instructors, you will then be required to provide ongoing evidence* of retained knowledge and your learnt skill set before gaining your full Locksmith Qualification.
*evidence can be provided through photos, videos and customer testimonials. Sub-contracting with Keytek® after the first 8 days of the course will enable you to gather evidence.
The first 5 days of the Locksmith Qualification course you will cover a wide variety of Locksmith training including the identification, operation, opening techniques, fitting and upgrading of the most common lock types:
- Cylinders – Euro, Oval and Rim
- Backsets – Standard, British Standard and Specialist
- Mortice Locks – 2, 3 and 5 lever with British Standards, including Sash Locks
- uPVC Doors – Locks and Mechanisms, including fault identification and replacement

- Diagnosing and rectifying faults
- Mortice and Cylinder Key cutting
- Car Opening Techniques
- Skill Enhancement Sessions
- Home Security Checks
Days 6 – 8
During these days you will be in the classroom covering aspects such as…
- Reducing the risks of health and safety at work
- Providing quotations
- Conducting risk assessments
- Maintaining Security of Customers Keys and Records
During these 3 days you will also be given the chance to go through refreshers on anything covered within the first 5 days of training. You will also be given industry scenario training to help get you ready for your first Locksmith job on a customer’s door.
Upon successful completion of the remainder of the course, you will be awarded with a Highfield Level 3 Diploma in Locksmithing – the highest certificate and official Locksmith qualification in the industry!
Using Enhanced Learning Credits
If you are a military leaver and are entitled to Enhanced Learning Credits through ELCAS, you can use your funding to begin your new career as a Locksmith! Level 4 NCFE Accreditation
After successful completion of the first 5 days, you will be awarded with a Level 4 Accreditation (customised qualification which is approved by the NCFE** this is enough to sub-contract for Keytek® and most other Locksmith companies.
**For the Level 4 certificate there is an additional charge of £10. For military personnel this cannot be funded through the ELC scheme and needs to be a separate transaction.
The Level 4 Customised Qualification has been developed to meet the specific needs of our trainees and has been accredited by NCFE who are an awarding organisation recognised by the qualification regulators for England (Ofqual), Wales (Qualifications Wales) and Northern Ireland (CCEA Regulation). Please note this NCFE Customised Qualification is an unregulated qualification and is not nationally recognised.
